Social Media & Video Links

SunSeeker Doors is active on Facebook and Instagram but Twitter (or X) is a bit up in the air at the moment. We have a few videos, too, some of which you can see on our website: https://www.sunseekerdoors.co.uk/video-demos/ - so yes, SunSeeker Doors has a website. It's full of information, photographs and a Quote Request Form so that home-owners who want a competitive price for replacement or new bespoke slide and pivot UltraSlim doors can easily budget for their project.

Some of our customers' reviews are below:

5-star review

Just to say we are so pleased with our doors that were installed around a week ago. Our experience from contact with Tony in sales and then Paul and Dee in the office has been fantastic from start to finish. The survey was undertaken on time and the doors went in one week early thank god!! Please also pass on my thanks to the installation team who were on time and very tidy in all the works they did.

Thank you once again for our lovely doors and all the new birds we get to see now in the garden.

We would be happy to recommend you as a company to anyone who asks about our doors.

Great Aftercare!

We have had our doors for nearly 3 years and have been incredibly happy with the sleek, slimline look and smooth ease at which they open and shut. Installation went well and everything ran smoothly. A year later we decided to get hooks to pin back the windows as they would swing about in the wind. Engineers came and did that without any issues. I suggest everyone asks for hooks on the doors and windows as an add on, as they don’t come with them.

Admired by all…

We have had two sets of these. They have made such a difference and are admired by all who come. We are so pleased with them that we are thinking of having another set between our garden room and lounge.

Choosing Between Aluminium UltraSlim or SuperSlim Bi Folding Doors

Aluminium Frames - Features & Benefits

SunSeeker Doors has long heralded Slimline Bi Folding Doors based upon the strength of the aluminium door frames. When compared with plastic or timber frames, aluminium frames retain their strength and durability even though they are considerably slimmer, both in profile and sightline.

Other benefits of aluminium frames include the finish. Powder-coating the frames in any of 200-ish colours offers a wider choice over alternative materials. The coating is extremely resiliant and, unless abused, will never require maintenance. No painting, ever. Just an occasional wipe with a damp cloth if, for example, muddy paws or handprints are in evidence.

Aluminium has come a long way in the decades since Crittal window frames were installed! Window and door frames have been developed to comply to EU and British standard thermal ratings. Thermally-broken aluminium frames mean that heat and cold cannot easily pass through from inside to outside or vice versa.

Retractable Doors - Features and Benefits

SunSeeker Doors manufactures a range of retractable patio doors. These are doors that fully open up for maximum walk-through width. The most popular style of retractable door that is widely available is the bi folding door. Bi-folds are also known as concertina, accordian, zig-zag or sliding-folding doors.

SunSeeker Slimline Bifolds have been installed throughout England for a number of years. Made to measure, often within 2-4 weeks, they are often specified by architects whose clients have provided good feedback. Subject to the support above the bi folding doors installation, retractable doors can be used for widths of up to 7metres. They are easy to slide open and closed in seconds.

With the doors closed, there is a feeling of spaciousness and an abundance of natural light through the expanse of glass. With the doors fully open, the home and garden are seemless living areas.

The newer style of retractable glass door looks similar to bi folding but each door is independent as there are no hinges joining them together. These are slide and turn or slide-pivot doors and the double-glazed versions are fairly unique to SunSeeker Doors. At the time of publication, no other manufacturer is believed to have aluminium-frame slide-pivot retractable doors.

As with Bi folding doors, slide-pivot doors have a standard master door that will pivot open normally. Unlike bifolds, the other doors will slide along the guides towards the open door and each can also pivot open, as many as required.

SunSeeker Doors' slide-pivot systems include Frameless Glass Doors (single glazed doors are not for use as patio doors but ideal retractable room dividers) and UltraSlim, with a 0.19cm side frame per door.

New Super Slimline Bi Folding Doors

The newly launched SuperSlim bi folding door also has a 0.19cm side frame. SunSeeker has invested more than a year of research into developing new locking and hinge systems to reduce the frame width associated with standard bi folding door frames. No other manufacturer is currently able to offer a similar bi fold with only 0.38cm sightline between two closed doors.

Why Choose SunSeeker Slimline Doors for your Property?

There is a wide choice of retractable patio doors with kite-marked double glazing that adhere to EC and British Standards. Some, including SunSeeker Doors, are manufactured in the UK and installed by the company's own team. Once you narrow down the available options of aluminium frames, possibly glass options and integral blinds, there are still a few companies in the mix.

If you want to maximise the glass area by selecting retractable doors with the slimmest sightlines, you need to choose between UltraSlim and SuperSlim.

Which Slimline Doors are Best for You - UltraSlim or SuperSlim?

UltraSlim's individual doors may not be your favourite choice if you have six or more doors to open and close. Other than that, the main decider is where you want the main door to open and which side you want the doors to stack.

The difference is illustrated in the image below:

These are 3-door systems with the main door on the left as you face the doors from inside the room. With bi folding doors, you them slide all doors from the left to stack on the right. With individual slide-pivot doors, each door slides towards the left for turning and stacking on the left.

Although, another nice touch with slide and turn doors is that you can open the first door and slide the next door across to keep a single width central opening or slide both doors to the left, without turning them, to have the walk-through space on the right.

Visit SunSeekerDoors.co.uk for a video demonstration of the versatility of UltraSlim slide-pivot doors.

Don't Dismiss Bi Folding / Patio Doors for Your Period Home

Bi Folding Doors with Aluminium Frames and Georgian style Glass option
Some people might dismiss the practical benefits of aluminium bi folding patio doors because they feel that the modern styling is not in keeping with existing windows and doors to their home. Instead, they feel that traditional French Doors with timber frames might provide the only answer. Sometimes, there are other alternatives...

The Versatility of Aluminium Frames

Aluminium frames are available in a number of colours and finishes therefore if you need to replace 50s crittal windows or blend in with pvc frames, there is a solution. If your white-washed cottage has black painted window frames (or other colours) then black powder-coated frames may be the ideal choice - with the added benefit that, unlike painting timber frames, the aluminium will require only an occasional wipe with a damp cloth to keep it looking good.

Glass Options for Bi Folding / Patio Doors

The double-glazing in bi folding patio doors can have diamond-shaped leaded-light panes to blend with windows in an old picturesque cottage, square leaded glass for a Georgian house or bars for an Art Deco style home.

If the period of your home happens to be more contemporary, glass options include tinted and obscured glass; frames can be green, blue, copper, graphite or virtually any colour - there is a choice of almost 200 RAL colours available.

Bi Folding Doors or Ultra Slim?

Depending on the property and the lifestyle of its owners, there is another alternative: UltraSlim frame patio door. The same glass options are available, including integral slatted blinds, and the 19mm side frames facilitate a wider viewing area through the glass.

More information about bi folding doors, UltraSlim and frameless glass doors can be found on the SunSeeker Doors website.

Bi Folding Doors Security, Locking Options

For security purposes, SunSeeker bi folding doors are generally installed with a locking/unlocking function from inside the home only. More recently, we have been asked if we would provide the option of locking and unlocking the doors from outside, too.

Yes! We are happy to be able to offer external locking as an option when you order your bi folding doors. Just let us know.

Choose your Bi Folding Glass Doors by recommendation

If you have landed on this article during your research, you may already have considered that aluminium framed or frameless glass doors are suited to your property; aluminium frames complement any white, coloured or metal framed existing windows and frameless can be used with any other style, modern or traditional, whether mullioned, leaded-light or stained glass.

At SunSeeker Doors, we fully believe that aluminium is the best material for bi folding door frames. PVC isn't strong enough unless reinforced (usually with aluminium) especially where hinges are set - and even then, the frame width is significantly more than aluminium. Timber frames look good but at an equivalent price to aluminium, the quality will not be the highest; prone to weather-related swelling and shrinkage, the wood will need to be treated and protected every year.

The raw aluminium has a powder-coated finish, offering a plethora of colours. The aluminium frames are thermally broken, meaning that the temperature affecting the exposed external aluminium is insulated from the frame on the inside of the property. SunSeeker Doors use a good quality aluminium; beware of cheap imported bifolds which may not be fit for purpose. Buying from a British manufacturer will avoid any shipping delays and help boost the economy!

With no hinges to dictate the strength required for side frames, Frameless Glass Doors provides a more versatile option for some home owners. An innovative new concept of a fully retractable door set, the glass doors are not joined together but each door operates separately, moving independently with a slide and pivot action.

To our knowledge, SunSeeker Doors is the only British manufacturer currently offering a kite-marked double glazed fully retractable frameless glass door system.

Sitting between our Slimline aluminium framed bifolds and Frameless Glass Doors, SunSeeker Doors UltraSlim is a slide and pivot door-set with 19mm aluminium side frames. To help you decide between bi folding doors, UltaSlim or frameless slide and pivot doors, we are happy to provide you with a no-obligation comparative quotation which includes a measuring service and full installation by our own team of experienced fitters.

Finally, choose your bi folding doors by recommendation ...

Most Popular Frame Colours for Slimline Bi Folding Doors and UltraSlim Patio Doors

Advantages of patio doors with aluminium frames rather than pvc or wooden are:
  • aluminium frames can be ultra-slim, therefore less obtrusive for viewing through closed doors
  • aluminium frames have narrower profiles for wider access space when doors are open
  • the UltraSlim patio door frames are not heavy, so it's easy to manouevre retractable doors
  • aluminium frames are available in a vast range of low maintenance colour finishes
White is the most popular colour as it matches existing pvc windows, therefore we base our quotes using RAL 9010 "Pure White" although the frames are available in almost 200 bespoke 'RAL' colours for an additional payment. The most popular of these other colours for frames are:  cream, silver, various shades of greys and black:

RAL colours: slate grey, graphite grey, silver, cream, anthracite grey & black
So, unless you are opting for our Frameless Glass Doors, take a look at the choice of frame colours we offer. Our UltraSlim patio doors gallery shows installations with grey frames and one with green frames.  Our bi folding door installations, although mostly white, show some installations with grey and black frames.

Why not compare the cost of retractable glass doors from SunSeeker Doors? It's fast - and totally free.

Feedback: what our competitors are saying about SunSeeker Doors

It came to our attention recently that at least one of our competitors is making misleading statements about us. Nothing serious but we thought we'd clear up any misunderstandings about whether we are manufacturers of frameless glass doors / glass curtains or just agents for a non-UK company.

SUNSEEKER DOORS MANUFACTURES FRAME-LESS AND ALUMINIUM-FRAMED GLASS DOORS IN ENGLAND.

Installation from 2003/2004
We've been manufacturing and installing bi folding doors since 2003. The concept was in its infancy as we developed our proprietary system in-house. We took the decision to retrain our aluminium powder-coating staff to install our bifolding doors with great care and, during the following years, our bifolding door system was refined and the installation team's experience grew. Although SunSeeker Doors is still a small-ish company, expansion has been carefully managed in line with sustainable economic growth plus continued research and development.

Since then, bifolds have become very popular in the UK, second only to French doors (and this is because many homes are built with openings limited to a double door width). A few manufacturers and a greater number of agents, including DIY shops, have brought products to market: aluminium, pvc and timber framed bifolding doors under various other names such as accordian, concertina, sliding-folding doors, etc. Some are  quality imports from Europe, many are cheap imports. Bi-folding-sliding doors prices may include installation or may be sold for builders or DIY enthusiasts to undertake fitting themselves.

At SunSeeker Doors, we prefer to offer a full installation service - the job is usually complete inside half a day and we leave the site with a smoothly working set of doors. However, when the recent recession saw home-owners and builders struggling to meet rising costs, we launched our Trade bifolds website to accommodate this market sector.

SunSeeker Frameless Glass Doors
Manufactured in the U.K.
In 2008, we were amongst companies in the UK who considered installing 'glass curtains' for an overseas company who manufacture single glazed enclosures. Realizing the limited potential of this product in the UK - suitable mainly for internal partitions and commercial applications - our engineers set about designing a double-glazed version of frameless glass doors for the UK market.

With double glazing, two parallel panes of glass are joined around the edges using a gasket to maintain a thermal barrier by forming a vacuum between the outside and inside glass. The gasket is narrow but visible at the sides of the glass doors; this is a considerable improvement over standard bifolding doors - about three-quarters of an inch interrupting a panoramic view rather than four inches (or more, with other bifolds).

Our Innovative Frameless Double Glazed
Slide and Pivot opening Patio Doors
The absence of frames posed a challenge in terms of how to hinge the doors - so we didn't. Instead, we designed a system that gently presses the door edges together when closed, making them weather-proof and maintaining insulation values that are higher than required by building regulations. The doors are opened with a slide and pivot motion. The main access door pivots open like most other doors in the home. If further doors are to be opened, each one easily slides across the gap and, in turn, pivots open to rest next to the previous door, and so on. An added feature is to open one door and leave the other doors spaced across the opening for fresh air if access is not required.

Thermally Broken - sounds bad but it's good

Sometimes we forget that industry-standard expressions are not always understood by many of our customers.

This week, we were asked what Thermally Broken Aluminium means and is it a good or bad thing?

Metals are good conductors of hot or cold which, in the case of door frames, is a bad thing because if the sun heats metal on the outside of the door - or worse, if the frost chills the metal outside - the rise or fall in temperature will be felt inside. Aluminium-framed doors would fail to meet thermal insulation requirements.

The way to retain all the good properties of aluminium frames without the unwanted results is to create a break between the aluminium on the outside and the aluminium on the inside. When this is done (by whichever method a manufacturer has developed) it is referred to as "thermally broken".

SunSeeker Doors' aluminium frames are thermally broken ... which is good. Visit our web site for aluminium-framed bi-folding-sliding doors, aluminium-framed slide-and-pivot doors and frameless double-glazed doors.

Slide and Fold or Slide and Turn - which doors do you prefer?

At SunSeeker Doors, we offer fully retractable patio doors and glass room dividers with the option of Slide and Fold or Slide and Turn.

When closed, both types of doors look similar. Folding-sliding or bi-folding doors have wider frames than our Ultra-Slim or Frameless Glass doors which work on the principle of each glass door individually sliding to the end of the guide rail before pivoting at right-angles to rest at the sides of the opening.

An advantage of the individual slide and pivot doors is that spaces can be left anywhere along the opening whereas the bifolds are joined together, enabling limited choice of where they may be left open.

Price-wise, there is not a massive difference between the styles and, until the end of July, there is a special offer:  UltraSlim for the SAME PRICE as bi folds. You can submit a request for an obligation-free comparative quotation of all our innovative doors with one easy form, here: Patio Door Quote Comparison.

Bi Folding Doors that don't actually fold = less frame and more glass!

Having spent eight years perfecting Slimline aluminium bi folds, innovative door manufacturer, SunSeeker Doors, recently spent two years designing and honing both Frameless and Ultra-Slim versions of the bifolding (or folding-sliding) doors 'offspring' without hinges - so they don't actually fold! The doors pivot individually to parallel-stack at the end of the guides.

The new, contemporary patio doors look similar to bi folding doors when they are open or closed but the difference is obvious when they are half way between the two.

Traditional folding-sliding doors, like SunSeeker Slimline, open and close with a zig-zag concertina movement, pairs of doors are hinged at one side with the other sides sliding along grooves.

The new doors were designed to feature more glass by reducing or removing the side frames, facilitating a superior view when the doors are closed. Without a decent chunk of frame on which to attach sturdy hinges, SunSeeker Doors had to develop a method of retaining the thermal values of the doors, in order to meet British standards; the edges of the doors had to fit together snugly without gaps. This was achieved, in fact, with slightly higher insulation qualities than the original bifolds.

Main Features & Benefits:
  • less metal, more glass for a better viewing area
  • improved insulation for greener living
Other Advantages:
  • Frameless Glass Doors ends the dilemma of wood v pvc v aluminium frames
  • Ultra-Slim aluminium frames (available in over 100 colours choices) enable integral blinds to be fitted
  • No hinges means that doors can be spaced across the opening for better 'breeze control' and, let's face it, this looks seriously cool with a massive WoW factor!
Finally, Price ... just a little more than traditional folding-sliding doors. Submit just one form for an obligation-free quotation on all three patio door styles.

Recurring Question: Aluminium, PVC or Timber Frames for your Patio Doors?

Often, it's a question of matching existing window frames but today's finishes can simulate natural or painted wood.

Aluminium frames are strongest, usually slimmest and available in well over 100 different colours - including a match for white pvc frames; PVC frames are available in wood-effect and can be the cheapest but you get what you pay for. Timber frames prices vary and the main reasons they are chosen despite higher maintenance issues is because wood can look good and because aluminium or pvc frames are not expected to match existing wooden frames on windows and doors.

There are many articles on the Internet and in magazines discussing this dilemma but even those written within the past year rarely include the alternative option - state-of-the-art FRAME-LESS patio doors. Only two manufacturers offer double-glazed FULLY RETRACTABLE patio doors that are thermally compliant with UK building regulations.

Working with Design and Build Architects

At SunSeeker Doors, we have often worked with architects and builders to install bifolding doors in new or extended homes but since the launch of of our fairly unique Frameless double-glazed doors, there has been a greater interest from the design and build sector.

In the UK, if clients want to make the most of a spectacular view from their homes, the considerations are:
  • best uninterrupted view,
  • best view through the glass,
  • building regulations compliance.
The best uninterrupted view is to have nothing between yourself and the view, not even glass. This can be achieved by installing retractable doors and opening them fully, such as slimline bifolding doors, glass curtains or double-glazed frameless glass doors. SunSeeker Doors manufactures and installs all these types of doors.

The best view through the glass can be achieved with fixed frameless glass panels, sliding frameless glass patio doors or retractable glass curtains made from single-glazed tempered glass but none of these would meet building regulations approval if installed between the main house and the outside. Double-glazing is necessary to reduce heat loss from homes, therefore a narrow opaque edge is unavoidable around each glass panel. With this in mind, the best available options for the best view through glass doors are double-glazed frameless glass doors or sliding patio doors.

Traditional sliding patio doors that run left and right along tracks do not retract to improve the view or access area. Sunseeker Doors' frameless glass doors have been developed to slide then pivot ninety degrees to stack neatly at the side of the opening for maximum access, light source and viewing aperture.

Design-and-Build Frameless Glass Doors Installation

SunSeeker Doors has experienced teams to perform a site survey and who can install our doors - frameless or bifolds - with minimum fuss in minimum time, leaving a tidy site within a few hours.

Architects benefit from fast but professional service, customers are pleased to be free of workmen and their debris and have working doors the same day.

We have the flexibility to work with architects, developers and building professionals to meet deadlines and other requirements. Read more about us on our web site, email or call 01582 492 730 to discuss including our quality, innovative doors in your plans.

Announcing Double Glazed Frameless Glass Doors

This is the first photograph of our latest product to be manufactured and installed in our UK: double glazed, Frameless Glass Doors with excellent thermal values.

Based on the frameless Glass Curtains concept (which are single glazed glass barriers, popular in Mediterranean Europe) of each door panel sliding to the side of the aperture and pivoting 90 degrees to stack neatly to the side of the opening, SunSeeker Doors' double glazed frameless glass doors are the latest development in patio doors with the ultimate viewable area.

Also in the photograph is a white framed, traditional sliding patio door. Comparing the walk-through space when the doors are open, Frameless Glass Doors enable almost double the access width of the sliding door system.

Patio Door Frame Colours

`
Your decision regarding patio doors will affect the next ten or more years of your life, whether you stay in your home or decide to sell it, therefore there are two aspects to consider ... what do you want now and what is a good, longer-term investment?

Longer term, especially if you may be selling your home, the patio doors need to look good and work efficiently. Aluminium framed doors are strong, almost impossible to damage with normal use and are virtually maintenance-free.

As for now, SunSeeker Doors' slimline frames give greater viewing pleasure than many alternatives. Not only are the frames narrower than those made of flimsier material but there is a vast choice of colours.

Aluminium frames are powder-coated, often in natural white so could be mistaken for pvc, but this process allows for the frames to be coated in any colour from the RAL range. Click here for a frame colour chart. Additionally, the frames are "thermally broken" for excellent insulation qualities, far greater than most wooden framed patio doors.

SunSeeker Doors offers traditional two-door patio doors plus bifolding options up to 7.2 metres - you can replace a whole wall of your house, providing the construction meets building regulations.

We measure, manufacture, deliver, install, test and guarantee our product and labour. SunSeeker Doors are made in England, to order; white frames can be installed in a few days, if necessary (see our Express BiFolding Door Service).

Check out the gallery of installations on our web site - then use our quote request form for a no-obligation quotation. Give your home a makeover with SunSeeker Doors. What frame colour will you choose?

Low Cill / Threshhold with Aluminium Bifolds

When comparing bi folding sliding patio doors and room dividers, consider whether the bottom runner for the doors enables easy access for people and objects as they move between rooms, the conservatory or the garden.

SunSeeker Doors' use of aluminium makes low cills our standard for bifolding doors installation, including (as shown above) the weather cill for bifolding patio doors.

SunSeekers Doors are manufactured in England so we are well aware of the nuances of English weather - wet, cold and occasionally hot. Our bifolding doors are a match for the English climate and the insulation qualities of our thermally-broken aluminium frames are excellent.

Spring has arrived - time to think ahead about your plans for this summer. Take a look at our web site and contact us for a quotation for your folding sliding doors ... and enjoy the great outdoors with a single step across a SunSeeker Doors low cill.
